No. DevOps Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to everyone, regardless of background. Some familiarity with IT concepts is helpful but not required, which makes it an accessible entry point for professionals at any stage.

How long is the DevOps Foundation certification valid?

DevOps Foundation is valid for three years. To keep it current, you renew by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities.

What is the format of the DevOps Foundation exam?

The DevOps Foundation exam is closed book with 40 single-answer multiple-choice questions. It is based on the DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge, and is delivered online through PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is closed book with single-answer questions drawn from the six topic areas of the DevOps Foundation Body of Knowledge.

What is the passing score for DevOps Foundation?

The pass mark is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. The course includes mock exams and practice questions to help you prepare for the format and reach that mark.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers six areas: DevOps Foundations, DevOps Concepts and Practices, Agile, ITSM and Lean IT, the DevOps Continuous Delivery Pipeline, Automation and Tooling, and DevOps Culture and Organization. Each is covered in the training.

What happens if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can resit the DevOps Foundation exam; the DevOps Institute resit policy and fees apply. Our trainers provide first-attempt guidance, mock exams and practice questions to help you prepare thoroughly and reduce the need for a retake.

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. DevOps Foundation is designed as an entry-level credential with no prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The training builds concepts from the ground up, so prior DevOps experience is not required to take part or pass.
