    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. It has 50 single-answer questions and no proctor is required.

    How long is the CSM exam and what is the pass mark?

    You have 60 minutes to complete the 50-question exam, and the passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly.

    How many attempts do I get for the CSM exam?

    Candidates typically have three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing the course. The exam is unlocked in your Scrum Alliance account once the approved course is complete.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the exam?

    Yes. Attendance at a Scrum Alliance approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed until you have completed the course.

    Which standard is the CSM exam based on?

    The exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, which are aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. It covers Scrum theory, values, the team, events, artifacts and the Scrum Master role.

    Yes. There are no prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The Certified Scrum Trainer builds the framework from first principles and uses hands-on exercises and case studies so you can apply Scrum straight away.

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition, and to the current Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, so you learn Scrum as it is practised today.
