The Lean Six Sigma Skills You Will MasterAcross the Five DMAIC Phases

This Green Belt programme builds practical command of the five DMAIC phases, core statistical methods and Lean tools. By the end, you can plan, run and sustain a scoped improvement project that delivers measurable results at work.

    Define the Problem and Project

Skills covered in Green Belt start here: build a business case and project charter, capture the voice of the customer, define critical-to-quality characteristics and apply the Y = f(x) problem-solving strategy to scope improvement work.

    Measure Processes with Data

Map processes with SIPOC and value stream maps, run measurement system analysis and gage R and R, and assess process capability so decisions rest on reliable data, not assumption.

    Analyze Root Causes Statistically

Apply descriptive and inferential statistics, the central limit theorem and hypothesis testing for normal and non-normal data to find and confirm the true drivers of variation.

    Improve with Regression and Experiments

Use simple and multiple regression, correlation and an introduction to designed experiments and full factorial methods to identify and validate effective process changes.

Apply Lean Tools to Cut Waste

Put Lean to work with 5S, the seven wastes, Kanban and Poka-Yoke mistake-proofing, integrating waste elimination directly into the DMAIC improvement cycle.

    Control and Sustain the Gains

Build control plans and use statistical process control charts such as I-MR, Xbar-R and P charts to hold improvements in place long after the project closes.

    Exam

What is the format of the Green Belt exam?

The Green Belt exam is closed book with multiple-choice and true or false questions across the five DMAIC phases. It is delivered through online proctoring on demand, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The training prepares you for this format with aligned practice questions.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 100 questions, with up to 10 additional unscored questions on some forms, and an allotted time of three hours. Around 20 questions cover each of the five DMAIC phases, so prepare for balanced coverage across Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control.

What is the passing score for the Green Belt exam?

You need a minimum of 385 points out of 550 to pass. There is no fixed percentage per phase, so aim for broad competence across all five DMAIC phases rather than relying on a single area.

Are there any prerequisites to sit the exam?

No. There are no formal prerequisites for the Green Belt exam. Training and real-world experience are recommended but not mandatory, so you can pursue the credential whatever your background.

What if I do not pass on my first attempt?

You can retake the exam, and our training is designed to maximise your readiness with mock exams and aligned practice questions so most learners feel well prepared. Selected plans include retake support. Talk to a learning advisor about the options.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Green Belt training?

You will learn the full DMAIC method: defining projects with charters and voice of the customer, measuring with process mapping and capability analysis, analysing with statistics and hypothesis testing, improving with regression and experiments, and controlling with SPC and Lean tools.

Do I need prior experience or a background in statistics?

No prior experience is required. The training builds statistical concepts step by step, from basic statistics to hypothesis testing, so beginners can follow comfortably while experienced professionals deepen their skills. Hands-on practice reinforces every topic.

Which Lean tools are covered in the course?

The course covers core Lean tools including 5S, the seven wastes, value stream mapping, Kanban and Poka-Yoke mistake-proofing, all integrated within the DMAIC framework so you can eliminate waste while improving quality.

Is there hands-on practice or just theory?

The training is practical and project-focused. You apply tools to real or simulated improvement scenarios, work through exercises and case discussions, and use practice questions and mock exams so you can apply the concepts at work, not just pass an exam.

Is the courseware aligned with the current Green Belt syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge, which is structured around the five DMAIC phases, so you study the competencies the exam actually tests.
