    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. No proctor is required and it is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is open book, so you can refer to materials while you answer.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The course prepares you across all six CSM topic areas so you sit the exam with confidence.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

    You typically have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our training and practice materials are designed to help you pass on your first attempt, and support is available if you need to resit.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Attendance at a Scrum Alliance approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam is unlocked in your Scrum Alliance portal only after you complete the course, and you have 90 days to sit it.

    What will I learn in the CSM training?

    You will learn the Scrum framework end to end: Scrum theory and the three pillars, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, all five Scrum events within their timeboxes, the three artefacts and their commitments, and the servant-leader Scrum Master role.

    How long is the CSM course and how is it delivered?

    The course runs for 16 hours, usually as two full days or four half-days, delivered live virtual (online) or on-site by a Certified Scrum Trainer. This meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement for CSM.

    Do I need prior Scrum experience to join?

    No. The CSM is an entry-level certification with no prerequisites, so beginners are welcome. The trainer builds concepts from first principles and uses hands-on activities, so you can join even if you are new to Scrum.

    What materials and practice are provided?

    You receive Scrum Alliance aligned courseware, industry case studies on facilitation and impediment removal, practice questions mapped to the exam format, and post-training support. These help you apply Scrum at work and prepare for the exam.
