What Is COBIT 5 Implementation and Who Should Earn It?UntitledYour Route to Governance Leadership

COBIT 5 Implementation (COBIT 5-I) is the intermediate-level certification that validates your ability to apply the COBIT 5 framework to plan and lead a real governance improvement programme. Built on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version) and examined through PeopleCert, it sits above COBIT 5 Foundation and prepares IT governance professionals in Kenya to move from framework awareness to hands-on implementation. Across Kenya's banks, telecoms, government agencies and consulting firms, boards face growing pressure from the Data Protection Act and Central Bank of Kenya oversight to prove mature IT governance. This certification equips you to apply the seven-phase implementation lifecycle, change enablement and programme management to close that gap, using the COBIT 5 framework that remains one of the most widely recognised standards for enterprise IT governance worldwide. Whether you lead a PMO, advise clients or manage IT risk, COBIT 5 Implementation training with Invensis Learning gives you a structured, exam-ready path from COBIT 5 Foundation to certified governance leadership.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Implementation exam?

It is an open-book, objective-testing exam of four questions, each worth 20 marks, for 80 marks in total. Only the COBIT 5 Implementation book and the COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide are permitted. It is based on the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version).

How long is the exam and what is the pass mark?

You have two and a half hours (150 minutes). The pass mark is 50 percent, meaning 40 marks or more out of 80. Scenario-based judgement matters, so know the method well even though the exam is open book.

How is the exam delivered in Kenya?

The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, either online with OnVUE proctoring available 24/7 or at an authorised test centre. You can sit it from Kenya through online proctoring.

What are the prerequisites for the exam?

You must hold COBIT 5 Foundation before sitting the Implementation exam. There is no formal work-experience requirement, though the level is aimed at those who lead or support governance improvement.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can resit the exam; verify the current PeopleCert resit policy when you book. Our training includes mock exams and practice questions to help you prepare for a first-attempt pass.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The programme covers the four exam topic areas: the need for a governance framework and the seven-phase implementation lifecycle, change enablement, programme management, and continuous improvement, all at application level.

What are the seven phases of the implementation lifecycle?

They are: what are the drivers, where are we now, where do we want to be, what needs to be done, how do we get there, did we get there, and how do we keep the momentum going. The lifecycle repeats as a continuous improvement cycle.

Can a beginner take this course?

This is an intermediate course, so you should hold COBIT 5 Foundation first. If you are new to COBIT, complete Foundation before enrolling; our advisors can guide you on the right starting point.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, and guidance on navigating the COBIT 5 Implementation book and COBIT 5 Enabling Processes Guide, plus case studies that reflect real governance scenarios.

Is the course aligned to the current syllabus?

Yes. The course is aligned to the COBIT 5 Implementation Exam Syllabus (2022 version) and the COBIT 5 Implementation Guide, so your preparation matches what the exam assesses.
