    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, online, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It has 50 questions covering Scrum theory, values, the team, events, artifacts and the Scrum Master role.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is open book and taken online without a proctor.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which is 37 correct answers out of 50. Focus on a solid understanding across all six topic areas rather than memorising individual answers.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Scrum Alliance requires attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer. Once you complete the course, the online exam is unlocked in your Scrum Alliance account and available within 90 days.

    What if I do not pass the CSM exam on the first try?

    You typically have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our training and exam guidance are designed to help you pass on the first attempt, and support is available if you need another try.
