What Is the COBIT 5 Assessor Certification and Who Is It For?UntitledYour Route to Specialist Governance Assessment

The COBIT 5 Assessor (COBIT 5-A) is the advanced, specialist credential that validates your ability to plan, conduct, rate and report formal COBIT 5 process capability assessments using the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model (PAM). COBIT 5 Assessor certification training in the United Kingdom equips IT governance, audit and GRC professionals to run structured, evidence-based assessments aligned to ISO/IEC 15504 (SPICE) and the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus, 2024 version. The programme covers all five Assessor topic areas at application and analysis level: the overview of COBIT 5 process assessment, the PAM structure, the six capability levels and nine process attributes, assessment planning and execution, and evidence, rating and reporting. It prepares you for the open-book Assessor examination delivered by PeopleCert, which uses the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide and the COBIT Process Assessment Model as permitted references. Across UK financial services, consulting, government and technology employers, credentialed assessors are increasingly sought after as boards and regulators demand objective proof of IT governance capability. As the highest level of the COBIT 5 qualification scheme, it sits above Foundation and Implementation and marks you as a specialist. Hold COBIT 5 Foundation before you attend, then start your Assessor journey with Invensis Learning.

What Is Driving UK Demand for Formal IT Governance Assessment?

    Assessor skills evidence governance capability

Boards want objective proof of IT governance capability, not opinion. PAM-based assessments give leadership consistent, ISO 15504-aligned ratings they can trust and act on.

    Assessor skills produce comparable ratings

    Third-Party and ICT Risk Pressure

Heavy reliance on cloud and outsourced ICT drives demand for structured capability assurance across the supply chain, where certified assessors add defensible rigour.

    Rising Regulatory and Audit Load

Overlapping regulatory frameworks increase the need for evidence that stands up to scrutiny. ISO 15504-aligned assessment output satisfies auditors, regulators and assurance functions alike.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

COBIT 5 Assessor (COBIT 5-A) is the highest-level qualification in the COBIT 5 scheme, validating your ability to plan, conduct, rate and report formal process capability assessments using the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model (PAM). It is designed for IT auditors, governance consultants, GRC specialists and lead assessors.

    General

What is the COBIT 5 Assessor certification and who is it for?

COBIT 5 Assessor (COBIT 5-A) is the highest-level qualification in the COBIT 5 scheme, validating your ability to plan, conduct, rate and report formal process capability assessments using the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model (PAM). It is designed for IT auditors, governance consultants, GRC specialists and lead assessors.

Is the COBIT 5 Assessor certification worth it in the UK?

Yes. UK employers across financial services, consulting, government and technology increasingly want objective, evidence-based proof of IT governance capability. Certified assessors are scarce, and the credential supports specialist roles such as IT auditor, IT governance manager and lead assessor, which command strong salaries.

Is COBIT 5 Assessor recognised internationally?

Yes. COBIT is the globally recognised standard for IT governance, and the Assessor credential is the highest level of the COBIT 5 scheme. The exam is delivered by PeopleCert, which operates in over 200 countries, so the qualification is recognised by employers worldwide.

How does COBIT 5 Assessor differ from COBIT 5 Implementation?

Implementation validates the ability to plan and manage a governance improvement programme using the seven-phase lifecycle. Assessor validates the specialist ability to conduct formal capability assessments using the PAM and ISO/IEC 15504. Implementation covers governance delivery; Assessor covers governance measurement.

Which standard and syllabus version is the certification based on?

The training and exam are based on the COBIT 5 framework and the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus, 2024 version. Assessments use the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model, which is aligned to ISO/IEC 15504 (SPICE), the international standard for process assessment.

    Pricing

How much does COBIT 5 Assessor training cost in the UK?

Training is typically purchased as a combined training and exam package, and the fee varies by format and delivery mode. We quote UK pricing in GBP. Request a quote or speak with a learning advisor for the current fee and any group options.

What is included in the COBIT 5 Assessor course fee?

The fee typically includes syllabus-aligned courseware, industry case studies, practice questions, mock exams, learner support and a course completion certificate. Exam voucher inclusion varies by package, so confirm this when you enrol. Ask us for a detailed quote.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for governance, audit and GRC teams. Request a tailored quote for your organisation and we will build a package around your team's needs.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Assessor exam?

The Assessor exam is an open-book, objective test based on the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus, 2024 version. The only permitted references are the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide: Using COBIT 5 and the COBIT Process Assessment Model. Questions require analysis and professional judgement in realistic assessment scenarios.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 8 questions, each worth 10 marks, for a total of 80 marks. You have 2 and a half hours (150 minutes) to complete it. All 8 questions are scored.

What is the passing score for the COBIT 5 Assessor exam?

The pass mark is 50%. You must achieve 40 marks or more out of the 80 available to pass.

What are the prerequisites for the Assessor exam?

COBIT 5 Foundation certification is required before you can sit the Assessor exam. COBIT 5 Implementation is recommended, and the Assessor exam assumes both Foundation and Implementation knowledge. Confirm current prerequisite requirements with PeopleCert before booking.

How is the exam delivered and can I retake it?

The exam is delivered through PeopleCert OnVUE online proctoring, available around the clock, or at authorised test centres. Retake and voucher validity policies are set by PeopleCert, so verify the current re-sit terms before you book. Our team can guide you through registration.

    Course Content

What topics does the COBIT 5 Assessor training cover?

The training covers all five Assessor topic areas: the overview of COBIT 5 process assessment, the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model, capability levels and attributes, assessment planning and execution, and evidence, rating and reporting, taught at application and analysis level.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You will be able to plan and scope an assessment, apply the PAM, use the six capability levels and nine process attributes with the four-point rating scale, gather and manage evidence, and build capability profiles and a PAM-compliant assessment report.

Do I need prior COBIT experience to take the training?

The Assessor course assumes COBIT 5 Foundation knowledge, and ideally Implementation, so you should hold Foundation before attending. Foundation concepts are not retaught. If you are new to COBIT, complete Foundation first, then progress to Assessor.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive syllabus-aligned courseware, industry-driven case studies on assessment planning and reporting, practice questions and mock exams. These help you navigate the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide and Process Assessment Model efficiently under exam conditions.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus, 2024 version, and to the COBIT 5 Process Assessment Model, which follows ISO/IEC 15504 conventions.
