    What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

    The exam is closed book with 150 multiple-choice questions; some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided. It is delivered by online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

    How long is the exam and what is the passing score?

    You have four hours (240 minutes) to complete the exam, with additional time available for non-native speakers or candidates with a disability. The minimum passing score is 580 out of 750 points. Each scored question is worth one mark.

    What is the exam application process?

    After your training, optionally take the non-proctored evaluation exam to check readiness, then purchase your exam voucher from the IASSC order site. Choose online on-demand proctoring or a Pearson VUE test centre, schedule your slot, and sit the four-hour exam.

    What topics are weighted most heavily on the exam?

    The five DMAIC phases are weighted as Define 13.5%, Measure 21.5%, Analyse 26.5%, Improve 16.5% and Control 22.0%. Analyse and Control carry the most weight, so prioritise hypothesis testing, statistical analysis and statistical process control in your preparation.

    Are prerequisites required to sit the exam?

    No prerequisites are required to sit the Black Belt exam. There is no mandatory education, work experience or prior certification, though training and project experience are strongly recommended to prepare for the advanced statistical content.

    What will I learn in the Black Belt programme?

    You will learn the full DMAIC methodology: defining projects and capturing customer needs, measurement system analysis, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, statistical process control and Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban and Poka-Yoke.

    Can a beginner take this course or do I need experience?

    Beginners with strong motivation can take the course, as there are no prerequisites. That said, the content is advanced and statistics-heavy, so prior process or Green Belt exposure helps. Our trainers and practice resources support learners at every stage.

    Are practice tests and mock exams included?

    Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 150-question format, plus topic-wise checks to help you identify weak areas and build readiness across all five DMAIC phases.
