    Do I need experience to take the CSM course?

    No. There is no formal education or work experience requirement. The CSM is designed for those new to Scrum as well as professionals wanting to formalise existing knowledge, so beginners are welcome.

    How long is the CSM certification valid?

    The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle.

    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and you have 60 minutes (one hour) to complete it. It is taken online without a proctor within 90 days of finishing the course.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    The passing score is 74%, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The exam is open book, so you can refer to your materials during the test.

    Do I have to attend a course to sit the CSM exam?

    Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed until you have completed the course, after which you have 90 days to sit it.

    What happens if I do not pass the first time?

    What will I learn in the CSM training?

    You will learn the full Scrum framework: Scrum theory and the three pillars, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team accountabilities, all five Scrum events, the three artefacts and their commitments, and the Scrum Master role as a servant leader.

    How long is the CSM course?

    The instructor-led programme runs for 16 hours, delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. This meets Scrum Alliance course requirements for the CSM.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. No prior Scrum experience is required. The course builds from Scrum fundamentals to practical facilitation, so beginners and experienced practitioners both gain a solid, Scrum Guide aligned foundation.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum standards?

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide (Schwaber and Sutherland, November 2020 edition), the authoritative reference for Scrum.
