Market Forces Making Certified Assessors Valuable

    The Governance Assurance Gap

Many enterprises run mature IT operations but cannot prove how capable their governance processes are. COBIT 5 Assessors close that gap with formal, evidence-based ratings.

Learn to run formal capability assessments

    Rising Regulatory and Audit Pressure

Regulators and boards increasingly demand defensible assurance over IT governance. ISO/IEC 15504-aligned COBIT 5 assessments give organizations a credible, comparable measure.

    Deliver ISO/IEC 15504-aligned assurance

    A Shortage of Qualified Assessors

The talent pool is deep in framework-aware practitioners but thin in certified assessors who can plan and rate formal capability assessments, making the credential rare and valued.

Stand out with a rare specialist credential

    Subjective, Inconsistent Reviews

Without a standard model, capability reviews vary by reviewer and lose credibility. The COBIT 5 PAM and four-point rating scale bring consistency, traceability and professional judgment.

Yes. It sits at the top of the COBIT 5 scheme and maps to senior roles such as IT audit manager and IT governance manager, which average $150,000 to $161,000 globally. Certified assessors are scarce, so the credential helps you stand out. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

    Exam

What is the format of the COBIT 5 Assessor exam?

The exam is open book and objective, based on the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus (2024 version). Only the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide: Using COBIT 5 and the COBIT Process Assessment Model are permitted. Questions require specialist analysis and professional judgment in realistic scenarios.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 8 questions, each worth 10 marks, for 80 marks in total. You have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it. All 8 questions are scored, so there are no unscored pretest questions.

What is the passing score for the COBIT 5 Assessor exam?

The pass mark is 50 percent. You must achieve 40 marks or more out of the 80 available to pass. Ratings across the five topic areas are what determine your overall result, so aim for broad mastery.

Which books can I use in the open-book exam?

Only two references are permitted: the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide: Using COBIT 5 and the COBIT Process Assessment Model. No other materials are allowed, so the training includes practice in navigating both quickly under timed conditions.

How and where do I take the exam?

You can sit the exam through PeopleCert OnVUE online proctoring, available 24/7 from home or office, or at a PeopleCert authorized test center. Both routes deliver the same open-book, 8-question paper.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can retake the exam. Our training includes mock exams, scenario practice and first-attempt guidance to help you prepare thoroughly. Verify the current re-sit policy and any fees with PeopleCert before you rebook.

    Course Content

What topics does the COBIT 5 Assessor training cover?

The 16-hour program covers all five Assessor topic areas: an overview of COBIT 5 process assessment, the PAM, capability levels and attributes, assessment planning and execution, and evidence, rating and reporting. Each is taught at application and analysis level.

What will I learn about the PAM and capability levels?

You learn the two-dimensional PAM, the six capability levels from Level 0 Incomplete to Level 5 Optimizing, the nine process attributes, and the four-point rating scale. You practice deriving capability levels from evidence-based attribute ratings.

Which standard and syllabus is the course based on?

The course is aligned to the COBIT 5 Assessor Exam Syllabus (2024 version) and the COBIT 5 Assessor Guide: Using COBIT 5. The assessment approach follows ISO/IEC 15504, the international standard for process assessment, for international credibility and comparability.

Do I need prior COBIT 5 knowledge?

Yes. COBIT 5 Foundation knowledge, including the five principles, seven enablers and the process reference model, is assumed and not retaught. COBIT 5 Implementation knowledge is recommended, as the Assessor syllabus builds on both prior levels.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The program includes scenario-based practice questions and mock exams mapped to the 8-question, open-book format, plus case studies covering assessment planning, evidence gathering, rating and reporting to build real exam readiness.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate. Passing the PeopleCert exam then earns you the official COBIT 5 Assessor digital certificate and badge, the highest level of the COBIT 5 scheme.
