What Is QFD and Why It Matters for Product TeamsUntitledA Customer-Driven Design Method

The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Training is a practical, one-day skills programme that teaches you how to translate the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. For professionals in Angola, it turns customer requirements into design decisions that reduce rework and win in the market. QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with its first formal application at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard in 1972. Today the House of Quality and the four-phase QFD model (product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning) are used across manufacturing, oil and gas, consumer goods, healthcare and service design. The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. You build and interpret a full House of Quality through hands-on exercises, then cascade it through the four phases. There is no examination; you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Start building customer-driven design capability with a programme employers value across sectors.

Why Customer-Driven Design Is in Demand Across Angola

    Breaking the Oil Dependence

Angola is diversifying beyond crude into manufacturing and consumer goods, where products must be designed around genuine customer needs to compete.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    High Reliance on Imports

With most finished goods imported, local makers need customer-driven design to build products that match market expectations and reduce import dependence.

    QFD builds product-market fit skills

    New Refineries, Higher Standards

Refineries at Cabinda, Lobito and Soyo demand rigorous translation of requirements into process and quality controls, exactly what the QFD cascade delivers.

    QFD builds requirement-to-process skills

    Costly Design Rework

Late-stage design changes drain budgets. The House of Quality surfaces conflicts early, cutting iterations and speeding time to market.

    QFD builds trade-off resolution skills

    Customer Experience in Services

Telecom and banking firms competing for customers must turn service expectations into delivery standards, a core application of QFD beyond manufacturing.

    QFD builds service-design skills

    Scarce Structured-Quality Skills

Angola's talent pool is thin in structured design-quality methods, so professionals who can lead a House of Quality workshop are genuinely rare.

QFD makes design-quality talent stand out

It builds customer-driven design capability you can apply immediately at work.

Is the QFD training worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD is a portable, cross-industry skill valued in manufacturing, oil and gas, consumer goods and services. As Angola diversifies its economy, professionals who can run a House of Quality and connect customer needs to design decisions stand out for quality, design and product roles.

Who should attend this QFD course?

The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who needs to translate customer requirements into product, process or service specifications will benefit.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No. The programme has no prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality concepts is helpful but not required.

Where did the QFD methodology come from?

QFD was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, with its first formal application at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard in 1972. The House of Quality and the four-phase QFD model remain the core of the methodology today.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Angola?

Fees vary by delivery format (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size. Pricing for Angola is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for engineering, quality and product teams. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment methods are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose what suits you.

Is there any extra cost beyond the training fee?

No. This is a non-certification skills course, so there is no examination or credential fee. The training fee covers the programme and its materials. Request a quote to confirm what is included for your chosen format.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the course?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after finishing the programme. No formal certification or credential is awarded by an external body, as QFD is a skills methodology rather than a certification scheme.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply the concepts through practical exercises, building and interpreting your own House of Quality matrix and completing Voice of the Customer and Kano model activities throughout the day.

Will I be able to apply QFD at work afterwards?

Yes. After the programme you can facilitate Voice of the Customer workshops, build a House of Quality, cascade QFD through parts, process and production planning, and use it within Design for Six Sigma and DMAIC projects.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered in one day (8 hours), covering QFD foundations, Voice of the Customer capture, full House of Quality construction, HoQ interpretation, four-phase cascading, and QFD in Design for Six Sigma and service design.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD training cover?

The programme covers QFD principles and origins, the Voice of the Customer and Kano model, building and interpreting the House of Quality, resolving design trade-offs, the four-phase QFD cascade, and applying QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and services.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, scores their relationships, benchmarks competitors, uses a correlation roof to flag design conflicts, and sets measurable engineering targets.

Does the course include hands-on practice?

Yes. You build a complete House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, structure the Voice of the Customer with affinity diagrams, classify needs with the Kano model, and calculate column importance during the session.

Does QFD apply to services as well as products?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications, including healthcare, financial services, IT service design and software development.

What materials are provided with the course?

You receive structured learning materials, House of Quality templates, worked examples and case studies to support the hands-on exercises and your own QFD projects after the training.
